Introduction to Tags

Tags in LexWorkplace are a simple yet powerful way to categories and organize your Documents, Clients and Matters.  Think of Tags as a post-it note that you can stick to a Client, Matter or any individual Document to keep qualifying information visible at a glance.

Tags provide three discreet advantages:

  • Tags are visible in the list view of Clients/Matters/Documents, putting important information front-and-center.

  • You can filter and sort by the Tags column when browsing Documents, Clients or Matters

  • You can search by Tag (in the case of Documents)

(More on these uses below.)

Users can add new Tags in Settings, or by creating new tags on the fly (when editing a Document’s properties or a Client or Matter).

Types of Tags

Documents, Clients and Matters each have their own set of Tags.

Document Tags

Apply Tags to individual documents to classify by status, priority or any other internal convention your firm uses.

Client Tags

Client tags help identify attributes or classifications for a client, or differentiate current statuses.

Matter Tags

  • Matter tags can display identifying characteristics, help sort and organize matters and can also be used to show statuses.

Common Uses for Tags

Tags enhance your workflow in a variety of ways.

Visual Callout
Tags appear as colored labels directly in list views, offering a fast, at-a-glance understanding of status or category.

Filter and Sort
Filter matters, documents or clients by using the “Filter” field on the top of the respective category.

Quickly Sort by tag

Using the document tags within a matter, you can easily filter and sort by tags.

Search
Tags can be used as filters within LexWorkplace’s search tool, allowing you to narrow search results to specific tags

How to Add or Edit Tags

To add or edit tags on a specific item:

  1. Hover over a document, client or matter.

  2. Click the 3-dot ellipsis.

  3. Click “Edit” for either the document, client or matter you are choosing to edit the tag on.

  4. Select an existing tag from the drop down list, OR start typing to create a brand new tag.

Global Tag Settings

To manage all available tags:

  1. Navigate to Settings on the top right corner

  2. Select whether to adjust Document Tags, Client Tags, or Matter tags under the Lists & Tags menu heading

  3. From here, you can add, rename, or remove available tags for use throughout the rest of your LexWorkplace Site.

No Limit to Tags!

You can apply as many or as few tags as you want. Even if the display goes beyond the column, you are still able to use each tag for filtering, sorting or searching.
